Tel Aviv wins UCD Law Soc IV
Tel Aviv L&H (Dan Lahav & Ayal Hayut-Man) won the first ever UCD Law Soc IV from Opening Opposition on the motion "THBT the Catalonian Government should have cancelled the independence referendum after it was ruled unconstitutional".

Mainz gewinnt die ZEIT DEBATTE Aachen
Das Team Mainz Anton (Andrea Gau/Daniil Pakhomenko) hat das Finale der ZEIT DEBATTE Aachen 2013 gewonnen. Als Besten Redner der Finales zeichnete die Ehren-Jury um Ulla Schmidt, Marcel Phillips, Prof. Martin Baumann, Florian Krämer und Philip Stiel Hauke Blume aus Berlin aus.
In einem spannnenden Finale setzte sich das Team aus der Schließenden Regierung durch.
Für die Ehrenjury lobte Prof. Baumann Haukes Redebeitrag, er hätte die Würze und Klarheit gehabt, die eine gute Rede braucht.
Damit endet die ZEIT DEBATTE Aachen, den Organisatoren, Teilnehmern, Sponsoren und der Ehrenjury vielen Dank für die schöne ZEIT DEBATTE und das gute Finale.

Gutenberg Cup 2012
Save the date: Debattierclub Johannes Gutenberg Mainz (DCJG) is looking for the “Jokes Champion”. The annual Gutenberg-Cup in Mainz is a tournament with exclusively funny motions. This year it is held on October 20 and 21, debating style is Offene Parlamentarische Debatte (OPD; teams consist of tree speakers and one adjudicator), language is German. If you want to be part of the tournament, please check the German version.
EUDC 2012: Update on results after round 6
Yep, the European Universities Debating Championship (EUDC or Euros) is still going on. It's day 3, the last three prelims are scheduled for today. We've got an update on the results of most of the teams from under the roof of VDCH (Verband der Debattierclubs an Hochschulen, or association of debating societies at universities). EUDC 2012: Results after day 2 in Belgrade
A little less hot in Belgrade, said the weather forecast. Only 31 degree Celsius, said the weather forecast. Must have felt like a fresh breeze after 40 degrees the day before. At least, today no one complained about the Serbian heat on Twitter. Rather, some obviously ate ice cream in between rounds for reasons of refreshment.
Apart from the weather, there's more exciting news from the Serbian capital: Again, Willy Witthaut helped us gather the results for VDCH club - thank you! (Again, of some teams we only have the data after previous rounds. We're trying to collect more data.)

New executive board in Mainz
In their general assembly, the Debattierclub Johannes Gutenberg Mainz (DCJG) elected a new executive board. Marina Freund is now president. He is flanked by Betty Braun and Allison Jones as vice presidents. Max Fritz has been elected treasurer.

MDD 2012: Biggest German language debating competition about to start
The German language debating championship is about to start in Vienna, Austria. Competing for the title are 68 teams from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, or debating societies from Aachen, Bayreuth, Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Graz, Göttingen, Halle, Hamburg, Hannover, Heidelberg, Ingolstadt, Jena, Karlsruhe, Kiel, Klagenfurt, Köln, Konstanz, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Mainz, Marburg, München, Münster, Potsdam, Regensburg, Salzburg, Stuttgart, St. Gallen, Tübingen, Wien, Würzburg and Zürich.

FDL: Berlin wins Dresden tournament / Mainz top FDL team
Georg Sommerfeld and Bruno Davids of Berlin Debating Union (BDU) won Saggsn Masders 2012, a tournament in the Saxonian capital Dresden. Georg was also awarded best speaker of the final. The other final teams were from Mainz (Willy Witthaut and Betty Braun) and of BDU: Sarah von Kaminietz and Martin Funck, and Hauke Blume and Marijana Todorovich).

In the South, Wiebke Nadler und Till Kroeger from Debating Club Heidelberg defeated Teams from Munich an Vienna. Jakob Reiter (Debattierklub Wien) was awarded most popular speaker of the final; Sven Hirschfeld (Heidelberg) and Konrad Gütschow (Tübingen) topped the tab.
In the North, Georg Sommerfeld and Johannes Häger from BDU Berlin defeated Teams from Potsdam and other Teams from Berlin. Jonas Werner was awarded best speaker of the final.

WUDC 2012: Starting now!
Debaters from all over the world are flocking in to Manila, Philippines. From 27 December 2011 to 4 January 2012, they assemble at De La Salle University (DLSU) to compete for the title of the World Universities Debating Championships (WUDC or Worlds).
