Judging Seminar in Magdeburg
The Debattierclub Magdeburg announced to host the first English judging seminar in Magdeburg. On Saturday, November 22, the participants will have one day of workshops and training. It will focus on how to arrive at a just call with the panel and how to justify it before the speakers.
The workshop will be held by Rebecca Irvine and is aimed at debaters with little judging experience (knowledge of the rules of the British Parliamentary Style is assumed, but not much active judging experience is required). Felicia Hoer wrote that there are ten spots for members from other societies. If necessary, the ...

Novice Tournament in Magdeburg
On the 5th of April, the Debating Society Magdeburg launches their first English speaking novice tournament. For the organisers of the tournament, Felicia Höer and Stefan Torges, this is a large step to establish and facilitate English debating in Germany. "Here in Germany, beginners in English debating have a hard time to get a foot in the door. Most tournaments are far away and quite expensive", Stefan says. Hence, they decided to make a tournament on their own: "We have a lot of English speaking novices in our society and so we thought we could do them a favour and ...

Elbe Open 2011
It's because of the copyright: The former "The double Otto" tournament is going to take place as "Elbe Open" and is named after the River Elbe that flows through Magdeburg.
Debattierclub Magdeburg shortly announced, the date remains 2 and 3 July. The convenors changend not only the name of the tournament, but also the style. Instead of the Open Parliamentary Debate (OPD) the style is now BPS with five prelims, semis and a final.
Isabelle Loewe, Miriam Hauft and Torsten Rössing are certainly worthy of note. Isabelle is EUDC winner 2006 (ESL) and was one of the CAs at the Vienna IV ...
FDL tournament in Magdeburg remains nameless
One week before the Berlin Humboldt IV, on July 2 and 3, the Debattierclub Magdeburg invites to a tournament whose name originally was supposed to be "The double Otto" – after Otto I, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 962 until his death in 973, and also Otto von Guericke, a German polymath and inventor of the air pump.
However, a local beverage manufacturer recently released a same-named drink consisting of orange and herbal liquors. To avoid copyright infringement, the originally planned name was cancelled for the time being.
Nevertheless, other basic information is already available. The style is OPD (open ...
