A new tradition that shall be continued: Vienna Fresher’s
For the first time Debattierklub Wien set up a tournament for Novices only: Vienna Freshers’ on 10-11 November 2012. The small competition was organised by Madlen Stottmeyer, a novice herself and teams were allowed to participate if the speakers have not been debating longer than one year. four rounds of five minute speeches with 25 minutes of prep-time gave fresh debaters an easy entry into British Parliamentary debating. A large international adjudication core lead by CAs Julia Mikić and Stefan Zweiker ensured that every participant got excellent feedback and could make the most of the tournament.

5th Malaysian Debate Open
You went to Manila but didn’t see enough of the South Asian region? You can now catch up and fly to Malaysia to the 5th Malaysian Debate Open in the City of Malakka, the capital of the south-east province of Malaysia. SOAS IV 2011
Debating in London – this year’s SOAS IV is being held from October 21 to 23 in the midst of London at the campus of the School of Oriental and African Studies. Registration fee is 40 pounds, including 6 preliminary rounds, quarter finals and ESL-semis as well as a debating workshop on Friday 21st. All registered debaters will be accommodated in a Hostel. Istanbul Open 2011
From 2nd to 5th August you will have the opportunity to once more prepare for the upcoming Euros in Galway. Istanbul is known for its good tournament organisation, besides various tournaments they were also host of the World Debating Championships in 2010. Quality Adjudication is provided by CA Douglas Cochran (Cambridge), DCA Michael Shapira (WUDC winner 2011, ESL) and DCA Manos Moschopolous (WUDC Best ESL Speaker 2010, EUDC ESL Finalist 2010). Istanbul also announced to have world-class adjudicators besides that, and are glade to have Anat Shapira (Best ESL speaker WUDC 2006, best speaker ESL EUDC 2005) attending as judge.

Prep for Euros in Budapest
The CEU Debating Society invites debaters from 2nd to 3rd of July to the capital city of Hungary, the first ever international debate event in Budapest.
Good quality debates will be provided by the Adjudication Team around CA Filip Dobranić (WUDC ESL best speaker, EUDC ESL champion).

New executive board in St. Gallen
The debating society DebatingClub St. Gallen convened for its board elections and elected a new board: Martin Kirsch, Adrej Woerner have been newly elected, Raffael Rimpf and Julian Bodenschatz (now President) will join the Board for a second period.

1st Baker & McKenzie Debate Club
The Debating Union of Vienna established a new project with one of the most prestigious international law firms, Baker & McKenzie: they cooperate with the so-called "Baker & McKenzie Debate Club". The first Baker & Mc Kenzie Debate Club will be hold on 6th and 7th May 2011 and places the best and most eloquent students together to test their reasoning and public speaking skills.

Vienna starts “Debating Evenings”
Sponsorship from the ZEIT for debating clubs!
The ZEIT – the main sponsor of the debating tournament series ZEIT DEBATTEN announced their sponsorship for this upcoming semester. All debating societies that belong to the umbrella association VDCH can now apply for material support for introductory evenings for newbies, university fairs or other events. For bigger events they also provide up to 80 Euros of financial support for debating clubs. The aim is to assist clubs with material or financial help, so that various debating projects and events may be realized.

Royal Holloway Open 2011
Debating in the direct surroundings of Windsor Castle: This is possible at the Royal Holloway Open 2011 in Egham from 12 to 13 March 2011 - just an hour away by foot from Windsor Castle. The tournament - as the conveners promise on the Facebook website of the competition - is the only tournament in the UK that allows to time- and place-set the cases, which means plenty of debates in fictional universes and historic settings, for instance "Should Nixon have burnt the tapes?".

Aberystwyth Open 2011
The Aberystwyth Debating Union invites to the Aberystwyth Open 2011, taking place on the 2nd of April 2011 at the Welsh Coast. Chief Adjudicator is going to be Matt Szeto, the format will be British Parliamentary. The Residents of Aberystwyth call their city simply “Aber” – it´s a Welsh seaside resort with approximately eleventhousand five hundred inhabitants, of which Prince Charles was one of them: he studied at the Aberystwyth University, whose Debating Union is hosting the ABER OPEN 2011. IDAS tournament winners announced
The winners of this year's International Debate Academy Slovenia (IDAS) Tournament in Ljubljana have been announced: First came John Sadek and Jessica Bullock from Vermont, second were Filip Dobranic and Maja Cimerman from Slovenia (currently European champions in ESL). The other two teams who debated in the finals were Anna England-Kerr and Crt Podlogar from Lubljana as well as Goran Jankuloski and Pedrag Pevicevic from Belgrade.
Anne Valkering chaired the final debate, alongside with her were judging John Hampson (British Council), Loke Wing Fatt (Singapore), TJ Senamngern (Thailand) and Maja Nenadovic (Netherlands).
