Berlin expects about 1.400 Debattierer from around 70 countries to the World Universities Debating Championships 2013 from December 27 2012 until January 4 2013 when about 400 teams will be competing for the title of world champion in the German capital. Since 1981, debaters from all over the world have been competing at the World Universities Debating Championships (WUDC or Worlds) at alternating locations across the planet. Berlin wins ZEIT DEBATTE Karlsruhe

Great start into the ZEIT DEBATTEN season 2011/2012 for Berlin Debating Union. Their speakers Georg Sommerfeld, Patrick Ehmann and Johannes Häger won the ZEIT DEBATTE's final against Marco Niedermaier, Lukas Windhager and Almut Graebsch who were competing for Debattierclub München. Georg Sommerfeld was the best speaker of the final. The motion was: Do we need the United Staates of Europe? The new ZEIT DEBATTEN series begins! This weekend, speakers and judges from all over VDCH-land flock at Karlsruhe. Language of the tournament, as in the whole series, is German, the ZEIT DEBATTE Karlsruhe will be held in Offene Parlamentarische Debatte (open parliamentary debate, OPD). Benedikt Nufer now president of VDCH / Tom-Michael Hesse, Simeon Reusch and Philipp Stiel his deputies

The general assembly of VDCH (the Association of Debating Societies at Universities) elected a new president and his deputies: Benedikt Nufer, Tom-Michael Hesse, Simeon Reusch and Philipp Stiel constitute the new VDCH executive board. Benedikt has already been part of the executive bord last year. He is a member of the debating society at Hamburg University where he works on his Ph.D. thesis in history. Well, we neglected the VDCH hall of fame - sorry. Now we proudly present the new table implying the ZEIT DEBATTEN and Regionals from January on. The top seated Berlin Debating Union did win no more than one additional point, but still remains number 1. Tübingen is the most high-flying club this year in points, but also Jena rocks and now ist in the top 5. Stuttgart and Berlin in the Science Po IV 2011 final

Team Texas A&M A (Syed Taha and Alya Al-Harthy) defeated teams from Stuttgart, Berlin and Utrecht in the Science Po IV 2011 final. Twenty BPS teams competed from May 7 to 9 at the tournament in Le Havre, France. Chief adjudicator at the ESL-only IV in France's Normandy was Manos Moschopoulos, his deputies were Anne Valkering, Isabelle Loewe, Milan Vignjevic and Rob Honig. The Tab is already online. New VDCH members: Salzburg and Graz

The Association of Debating Societies at Universities (VDCH) has now grown to 73 debating societies. The umbrella association represents debating societies in Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Just recently two new debating societies from Austria have become members of VDCH. These are Debattierclub Graz and RedeSalz Salzburg.
