One week before the Berlin Humboldt IV, on July 2 and 3, the Debattierclub Magdeburg invites to a tournament whose name originally was supposed to be “The double Otto” – after Otto I, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 962 until his death in 973, and also Otto von Guericke, a German polymath and inventor of the air pump.

However, a local beverage manufacturer recently released a same-named drink consisting of orange and herbal liquors. To avoid copyright infringement, the originally planned name was cancelled for the time being.

Nevertheless, other basic information is already available. The style is OPD (open parliamentary debate), a style that is widely spread in the German language debating circuit. The team cap is 12 with three preliminary rounds, a semifinal and a final. Reg fee will be probably 5 to 7 € per person. The Saxony-Anhalt capital Magdeburg is situated on the River Elbe, and the convenors promise an open air beach party directly on the beach.

By the end of May, registration will open.Further information on the tournament (including its name) will follow on Achte Minute.
