The team Varvara (Maxim Raschupkin, Mikhail Shuganov) from Kazan has won the final of the Moscow Open 2017 from Opening Government on the Motion “THBT democratic states should ban and block all media outlets believed to undermine democratic values”. They defeated Pink Ponies (Alexey Nogovitsin, Danil Kustin) in Opening Opposition, SUFE A (Yan Shen, Qiyu Lin) in Closing Government and 2 genders 1 cup (Ekaterina Bogma, Nikola Serafimov) in Closing Opposition.

The final was judged by Raffy Marshall, Monica Forman, Harish Natarajan, Janko Djordjevic, Melda Eren, Anna Akimova and Michael Sazonov.

Mikhail Shuganov was also best speaker of the tournament with an average of 79,4 points.

The CA team consisted of Mifzal Mohammed, Raffy Marshall, Monica Forman and Harish Natarajan. Dimitri Nilov was the equity officer. The tournament took place on 2nd and 3rd december 2017.

Motions:

R1: THW ban schools that teach women how to seduce rich men.

R2: THBT African American civil rights movements should publicly shame successful African Americans who do not give back to their communities (e.g. OJ Simpson, Jay Z).

R3: THW make conscription a war crime.

R4: THW remove Lenin’s tomb from Red Square.

R5: In countries with a declining population, THW place a higher tax on individuals who do not have children.

SF: Upon the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, This House as Israel, would pay Arabs with an Israeli citizenship to immigrate to Palestine.
