WUDC 2016 JohannesburgThessaloniki WUDC 2016On January 1st, the members of the Worlds Universities Debating Council will make many decisions – but the most important one is certainly determining the host of the worlds debating championship 2016. Two cities are bidding to host the most prestigious debating tournament in the world: Thessaloniki and Johannesburg. To make the comparison easier for the delegates, the conveners have agreed to fill out a comparative list where the core facts can be assessed and that the country delegation can form an opinion.

  1. Hello,

We noticed that there is a difference in the metrics used by both bids to present their flight prices. We have applied Johannesburg’s metric just now and have received these prices – we would appreciate it if the document was updated to show a more direct comparison:

Frankfurt: EUR 64 on Ryanair (direct), EUR 171 on Air Serbia (1 stop)
Amsterdam: EUR 199 on Alitalia (1 stop)
London: GBP 92 on Ryanair (direct), EUR 192 on Alitalia (1 stop)
Paris: EUR 176 on Air Serbia (1 stop)
Tel Aviv: EUR 267 on El Al (1 stop)
New York: USD 980 on Swiss (1 stop)
Los Angeles: USD 979 on Aeroflot (2 stops)
Toronto: USD 929 on Air France (1 stop)
Singapore: USD 865 on Emirates (1 stop)
Bangkok: USD 868 on Aeroflot (1 stop)
Tokyo: USD 972 on Etihad (1 stop)

We also have researched prices for Johannesburg on the metric currently used by the Thessaloniki WUDC 2016 bid on that document; the results are available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pmar20YSXATRfm8duuBCFTrnD8FQkoZCBqGSpPuRbQA/edit
